About 3lb Cards

Inspiration 
I love just about all aspects of "snail mail".  The walk to the mailbox, the joy of seeing your name in a loved one’s handwriting, the anticipation of the message inside, the delight of art chosen just for you, the opportunity to craft a reply and then send your thoughts-a snapshot of that specific moment in time-sailing out into the world.  Out of this love, 3lb Cards was born. 

My paper craft is inspired by the desire to build and strengthen the bonds of community-sending messages of love, words of gratitude, humorous tidings, and expressions of kindness.  I live and work in the Puget Sound among the verdant landscapes and multitudinous waterways of Kitsap County. 

Sizing and Postage 
3lb cards come in variety of sizes.  Here are the most common:

  • Coin - 3.5x2.125in
  • Square 3 - 3x3in
  • Square 5 - 5x5in
  • Square 5.5 - 5.5x5.5in
  • Square 6 - 6x6in
  • Announcement 6 - 6x3.5in
  • Diagolope - 8.25x4.125in
  • 4 Bar - 5x3.5in
  • A2 - 5.5x4.25in
  • A6 - 6.25x4.5in
  • A7 - 7x5in

Card sizes refer to the folded, finished product so you'll have roughly double that amount of space to write on.  The envelope measurements are necessarily a bit larger.  All measurements will vary slightly.  Coin and Square 3 cards (Mini Cards) are too small to be sent through the mail but are perfect for use as gift enclosures and for slipping into pockets or lunchbags.  Square 5, 5.5, and 6 cards always require extra postage (nonmachinable surcharge of $0.46).  Occasionally, other size cards made from specialty papers may require extra postage due to their texture or special handling restrictions.  Unless specifically noted above or in the description, all 3lb Cards are able to be sent via USPS First Class mail. The inside of all cards is left blank for your message.

Closure style
Most 3lb cards offer one of three flap (or closure) styles:

  • pointed flap (also known as baronial)
  • straight flap (also known as announcement)
  • coin (also known as catalog)

The Diagolope will sometimes have an angle flap and some custom cards may have further stylized or shaped flaps.
